MUSE SWAP explores an ekphrastic frame of collage creation. Approaching collage as the ideal platform for hybridization and joyful interconnectedness, this workshop equalizes different art forms, from music, literature, painting, photographic archives and other expressions.
By acknowledging our existence in a rich world of cultural creations, MUSE SWAP seeks to make perception into a game of seeking, proposing to its participants an anticipatory step of looking for, and selecting, some reference - their muse - that they inbue with artistic and personal meaning.
If, for instance, a participator brings a poem as a muse, they would be required to bring the printed text, or objects and textures that they connect to this muse. If, on the other hand, it is a painting they choose, the printed image of the painting would become the core of their collage, which they would cut, turn around, multiply, reproduce, shred or hide, as chosen. Assemblage or zine format approaches would be encouraged, as well as minimalist productions.
Participants would be encouraged to offer one part of their reference into a communal pile, from which all would be able to take out scraps. In this way, the collage process becomes a collective game of mutual influence.
About Maria:
Maria Duran (she/her) is a researcher and PhD candidate in Art History from IHA-NOVA FCSH in Lisbon, Portugal. Her literary work has been published Gilbert & Hall Press, Black Moon Magazine, The Ekphrastic Magazine, tiny wren lit, Iceblink Lit, among others. Her digital and physical collage tend towards the photographic and the experimental, and can be found in several zines and exhibitions. Her visual essay has been on the cover of Sophon Lit Magazine. She was a finalist of the 2024 Lisbon Poetry Festival, and has been nominated for the 2025 Best of the Net award. Her poetry debut was published with Urutau Press. She facilitates workshops and produces cultural programming at Contacto Festival and Casulo Cofeehouse.
Collage Working Club (CWC) is a weekly open workspace for artists working in the medium of paper. Organised in the format of alternate ‘drop in’ sessions and workshops masterclasses, it has both a regular facilitator, whilst also involving the artist community in the sharing of knowledge and skills. Providing materials, education and connections is the primary aim of CWC, and it will do this through the interdisciplinary art of collage as both an art form and a tool for personal growth.

Organizado no formato de sessões alternadas e masterclasses, tem um facilitador regular, ao mesmo tempo que envolve a comunidade de artistas na partilha de conhecimentos e competências.Fornecer materiais, educação e ligações é o principal objetivo do CWC, e fá-lo-á através da interdisciplinaridade da colagem como uma forma de arte e uma ferramenta para o crescimento pessoal.
