About this Event

Join us at Potteric Carr nature reserve during murmuration season for an exclusive after hours event involving:

  • 3:30pm - 4:30 pm: Walk at dusk with the chance of seeing starlings in action.
  • 4:30pm: Delicious soup and a sandwhich served back at the visitors’ centre.
  • 5pm: Talk from wildlife photographer Sean Jones with tips and tricks for wild bird photography
  • 6pm: Hots drinks and biscuits with a short talk about some behind the scenes work we do at YWT.

Join us for a dusk walk just before the sun sets for the best chance to see an incredible starling murmuration. We cannot guarantee a sighting of the murmuration taking place. Starlings have been known in previous years to nest at Potteric and preform this incredible phenomenon on our site. However, they are wild creatures, and we cannot guarantee they will perform! We will be taking an hour long walk on site which will be a beautiful time to see the reserve and take stunning pictures regardless of if we manage to catch the murmuration.

After the walk join us in our warm and cozy visitor centre for some delicious hearty soup and sandwiches*. Once you're nice and warmed up listen to a fascinating talk from wildlife photographer Sean Jones, giving his top tips and tricks for how best to photograph wild birds as well as sharing some of his own experiences and stories. There will be time for a Q&A with Sean to answer any wildlife photography questions you may have.

The evening doesn't end there! Hot drinks and biscuits will be served as you listen a short talk about some of the amazing work Yorkshire Wildlife Trust does and how we protect our wild species.
