Session2: A Full-Participation Murder Mystery — Venetian Masquerade, 1763
It’s the final, glittering night of Carnival, and you’re invited to the grandest masked ball in the city. Somewhere in that crowd of powdered wigs and gilded masks is an Inquisitor of State — here, uninvited, to arrest someone in the room before the night is through. He never gets the chance to say who.
Like Blackwood Manor, this is a fully immersive evening: every guest who registers becomes a character in the story, complete with their own secrets, rivalries, and a stake in how the night ends. At the door, you’ll receive your mask, and in this mystery, the mask is more than a costume. It’s the whole puzzle. Several guests will see the killer clearly during the murder, unmistakably, mask and all. The trouble is, the person the mask belongs to has an alibi nobody can shake. Solving the case means figuring out who was really underneath it.
The evening opens with the ball in full swing with music, cards, and a room full of Venice’s most fashionable (and most compromised) society, all mingling and pursuing their own small goals. When the Inquisitor is found dead, the investigation begins in earnest: guests trade favors and information, corner each other with pointed questions, and piece together testimony, sketches, and physical evidence scattered through the room. By the end, everyone submits their own theory of who wore the mask, and why.
What to wear: A mask will be provided to every guest at check-in as part of your character kit — think of it as your costume taken care of for you. Black tie or elegant eveningwear underneath is a lovely touch if you’d like to lean into the setting, but isn’t required.
What to expect: No performance experience is necessary — every character comes with everything you need to play your part. This is our most visually striking event of the two: expect candlelight, music, and a room full of masks concealing rather more than anyone lets on. Runs approximately two and a half hours.
Cost: $50 per person
