One year ago tonight, Reginald Blackwood died in his own home, leaving behind a fortune, a furious family, and a will that has never been found. His widow has invited guests into the house for one reason: to sit in on a séance and finally learn, from beyond the grave, where he hid it.
You’ll attend as yourself — an invited guest of the Blackwood family for the evening. The household itself is brought to life by a live cast: the widow, her son and heir, her daughter, the family physician, the solicitor, the housekeeper, and a longtime family friend will all be in character and circulating throughout the night, each with their own secrets, grievances, and reasons to want the truth to stay buried.
The evening opens with a reception, giving you the chance to meet the family, take in the gossip, and form your first impressions before anything goes wrong. Then the séance begins — and in the dark, something happens. When the lights come back up, the medium is dead, and every member of the household suddenly has a great deal more to hide.
From there, the investigation is yours to run. Circulate, ask questions, press the family on what they saw and where they were, and examine the evidence as it’s revealed over the course of the night. When you think you’ve worked out who did it, how, and why, you’ll submit your own written accusation before the final reveal.
What to wear: Victorian mourning dress or eveningwear is encouraged, but not required — a single dark accessory (gloves, a brooch, a pocket watch) is enough to feel part of the evening.
What to expect: You won’t be assigned a character or a script — just come ready to mingle, ask sharp questions, and keep your eyes open. Runs approximately two and a half hours.
