moviejuice at AFF 2026SCUM '87 + CHRONOVISOR
Saturday 24th October
8:00 PM
This year at the Adelaide Film Festival, Moviejuice returns with an evening of historical conspiracy and paranoia amongst the abyssal depths of the archive.
In SCUM '87, directed by local hero Gabe Bath, Andy Warhol has died and his would-be assassin, Valerie Solanas, sits in anticipation of her own demise. Multiple people provide testimonies to what she was like, and somewhere between all of them lies a truth. But the question remains: did she ever cross paths with Jerry Lewis impersonator Sammy Petrillo?
And in much-hyped US indie breakout CHRONOVISOR, directed by Kevin Walker & Jack Auen of Cosmic Salon, we follow brilliant multi-lingual academic Béatrice as she investigates the mystery of a device that can purportedly allow its user to see into the past. Immersing us in the act of research, CHRONOVISOR blends religious hoax and speculative historical fiction into a Borgesian noir for lovers of literature and late-nights in the library. [Aus. distribution by Plainwater Films]
Falling down a rabbit hole of mysterious literary and audiovisual ephemera, both films form a DIY diptych on the pleasures and horrors of the deep dive, and the manifold ways that one can find themselves trapped in the past.
Join us for a revelatory night of hidden records, esoteric media and some of the most exciting filmmaking you'll see this year. Tix available now!!
This event is held on unceded Kaurna Land. Always was, always will be.
