MOVING AND ASSISTING TRAIN THE TRAINER – ANDOVERDevelop or refresh the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to deliver safe, person-centred Moving and Assisting training.
This practical one-day course can be completed as:
• A specialist Knowledge Unit following the Training in Partnership core Train the Trainer programme
• A standalone annual refresher and CPD update for existing Moving and Assisting trainers
The day combines trainer-led learning with demonstrations, practical activities, scenarios, peer coaching and competency assessment.
COURSE CONTENT
The course explores relevant legislation and trainer responsibilities, basic spinal anatomy, posture, ergonomics, safer movement principles, person-centred practice, communication, consent, dignity and independence.
Participants will also examine dynamic and TILEO risk assessment, equipment selection, pre-use checks, unsafe or controversial techniques, practical demonstrations, coaching learners, correcting unsafe practice and assessing competence.
Practical activities may include sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit, assisted walking, responding to a falling person, rolling and repositioning, slide sheets, hoists, standing aids, wheelchairs and slide boards. Activities will reflect the equipment available and participants’ workplace requirements.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This course is suitable for existing workplace trainers, Moving and Assisting leads, senior care or clinical staff, managers and subject specialists who train and assess colleagues.
Participants must have completed the Training in Partnership core Train the Trainer programme or hold a suitable existing trainer or teaching qualification. They must also have current occupational knowledge, relevant practical experience and competence in Moving and Assisting people.
This is not an introductory Moving and Assisting course or an initial trainer qualification.

ASSESSMENT AND CERTIFICATION
Assessment takes place throughout the day through questions, case studies, practical demonstrations, coaching activities and a structured competency assessment.
Following successful completion, participants receive a separate Training in Partnership Moving and Assisting Train the Trainer Knowledge Unit certificate. For existing Moving and Assisting trainers, this may be used as evidence of annual refresher training and continuing professional development.
The certificate is not an Ofqual-regulated qualification and does not replace the need for an appropriate trainer qualification, current occupational competence, employer authorisation or equipment-specific instruction.
