About this Event
Mountain Homecoming 2026 — Party Like It’s 1899!
Come on up to the mountain for a celebration of American heritage, traditional herbalism, homesteading, handcrafted goods, traditional farming, and the simple skills that have connected families to the land for generations.
Presented by Freeborn Family Forest School, Mountain Homecoming invites families to step back in time for an old-fashioned afternoon at the historic Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse.
Wander between hands-on activities including pumpkin decorating, old-fashioned applesauce making, mini-village construction, archery target practice, traditional games, and heritage-inspired demonstrations. Follow the trail beneath the oaks to Camp Blue Oak, our outdoor Forest School classroom, and experience the place where our students gather, learn, create, and explore.
As evening settles over the mountain, we'll gather together for a Little House on the Prairie-style supper, sharing good food and good company in the spirit of an old-fashioned community gathering.
Teacher and author Jessica Freeborn will also be signing copies of her foraging and field guide, Where The Wild Things Grow.
Mountain Homecoming is a fundraiser benefiting Freeborn Family Forest School. Proceeds will provide scholarships for local families and educational materials for our students, helping our little school continue to put down roots and grow.
Bring the whole family, spend an afternoon beneath the oaks, and experience a little of the magic of Forest School and Figueroa Mountain.
Come hungry, come curious, and come on up to the mountain!
