In honor of American Diabetes Awareness Month, Montefiore Mount Vernon and Plant Powered Metro New York invite you to a free community event for anyone living with diabetes or prediabetes, anyone at risk, and the family members and caregivers who support them.
What to expect
- Expert talks: Montefiore physicians explain how plant-based nutrition can help prevent and reverse diabetes, and clear up common nutrition and health myths
- Plant-based eating made simple: What whole food, plant-based nutrition is and how to get started
- Real stories: Community members share how changing their diet changed their health, and how they make it work at home and within their culture (English and Spanish sessions)
- Free health screenings: Blood pressure, blood glucose/A1C, and diabetes risk assessment
- Healthy lunch and vendor fair: Enjoy a meal and connect with local health and community organizations
- Ask the care team: Nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers, and community health workers answer your questions about care, nutrition assistance, transportation, insurance, and more
You’ll leave knowing your key health numbers, your personal risk factors, simple ways to eat well and move more, and where to turn for care and support.
Doors and vendor fair open at 10:30 AM. Lunch is provided.
