Join us for Morning Calm with Yixiang Chen, pianist from the Royal College of Music, who will be playing works by Mozart, Brahms, JS Bach, Schubert, Haydn and Debussy.

Dates: Daily Monday - Friday

Time: 8.40-8.55am

Location: St George's Hanover Square, St George Street, W1

Morning Calm is a short piano recital beginning at 8.40am, consisting of around 10-12 minutes of music followed by a few minutes' silence for reflection and meditation before ending with brief prayers for the day ahead. You are most welcome to stay for the whole recital or if you would prefer not to stay for the Christian conclusion to leave just before the end. Morning Calm aims to offer a reflective and calm start to the day for people of any faith or none in the hustle and bustle of the West End of London.

As always admission is free.


Yixiang Chen is a pianist currently studying at the Royal College of Music, London, where she works under the guidance of Professor Gordon Fergus-Thompson and Alim Beisembayev. She is an active performer with a strong foundation in solo repertoire.

She began her piano studies at a young age and received her early professional training at Shenzhen Arts School, where she studied from 2013 to 2020. From 2020 to 2024, she completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the Royal College of Music, studying with Professor Gordon Fergus-Thompson. She is currently continuing her studies at the Royal College of Music at postgraduate level, working with Professor Gordon Fergus-Thompson and Alim Beisembayev.

As a performer, Yixiang has appeared in a wide range of concert settings. She performed Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers with the Shenzhen Arts School Orchestra at the Shenzhen Theatre and the Cultural and Sports Centre in 2014 and 2015. In 2021, she participated in a choral performance of Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem. In February 2025, she performed in an RCM external concert at St Mary Abbots Church, London, followed by a recital at the Austrian Cultural Forum in May 2025. In October 2025, she gave a recital at Oxford University Church, Oxford.

Yixiang has received recognition in several international piano competitions. Her awards include Second Prize at the 3rd Singapore International Classical Piano Competition, Fourth Prize at the Hong Kong International Piano Open Competition (2019), and First Prize at the AcumoGlobal International Competition (January 2026).
