Join us for Morning Calm with Lan Hu, pianist from the Royal College of Music, who will be playing works by Debussy

Morning Calm is a short piano recital beginning at 8.40am, consisting of around 10-12 minutes of music followed by a few minutes' silence for reflection and meditation before ending with brief prayers for the day ahead. You are most welcome to stay for the whole recital or if you would prefer not to stay for the Christian conclusion to leave just before the end. Morning Calm aims to offer a reflective and calm start to the day for people of any faith or none in the hustle and bustle of the West End of London.
As always admission is free.
Lan is a celebrated Chinese Pianist, prize winner of numerous prestigious competitions, including the Shanghai International Piano Competition, the Thailand International Piano Competition, and the Gold Medal Music Competition at RNCM.
She has performed at many renowned events and venues in Europe, such as Torre de Canyamel in Mallorca, Spain, Steinway Hall and many churches in London. She has also been invited to perform piano recitals across Asia including Steinway Hall in Beijing and Shenzhen, and Shenzhen Concert Hall in China, and the National Taiwan University of Arts Concert Hall. Notably, she was invited by the Taichung Bureau of Culture in Taiwan to perform the piano concerto "Yellow River" at the Huludun Culture Center Hall, earning high praise from both the public and critics alike.
Passionate about sharing her musical insights and experiences, Lan has conducted over ten concert-lectures in China, supported by the Futian Musician Association, Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and UN Bookstore HK. These events, funded by the Futian District's special funds for promoting cultural and sports development, were highly acclaimed.
Lan is deeply grateful for the support of her sponsors, who have recognized her musical potential and abilities. She is a George Stennett Scholar and has received the Else and Leonard Cross Award, as well as college awards from Royal College of Music, Royal Northern College of Music, and Trinity Laban Conservatory of music. Since 2022, she has been a visiting musician with the Yuto Foundation China, performing numerous solo recitals for charity events.
In 2023, Lan was invited to perform at the London Chinese New Year Gala, celebrating the Year of the Dragon. She had the honor of attending alongside the Chinese Ambassador and the Cultural Counsellor, and the event was covered by CCTV News Channel.
Lan is the winner of the Lunigiana Music Festival Concerto Competition in Italy 2024, where she received offers for performance opportunities across Europe. In 2025, she will also give solo recitals for various music organizations and festivals in the UK.
Lan Hu remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of her musical expression, whether through solo performances or collaborative endeavours, continuing to shape her identity as a contemporary concert pianist.
