BU CARES and the Centre for Critical Studies of Rural Mental Health invite you to an afternoon full of dialogue, awareness, and resources.
As we continue to reinforce students' mental health and well-being, we will have a group of people with experience in the field sharing stories, reinforcing resources, and providing a safe space for open dialogues.
Join us on October 6th, 2026 at the Gathering Space at John E. Robbins Library (Brandon University).
About the invited speakers:
1) Payton M. L. Senger is a student in Psych Nursing at BU. She is the author of Where the Wildflowers Grow, which is a story of a journey of resilience, healing, and self-discovery.
2) Cheryl Fleming is the Diversity and Human Rights Advisor at Brandon University. She leads the design and delivery of institution-wide EDIDR training and education, strengthening organizational capacity for equitable and inclusive practice. She supports faculty, staff, students, and leadership in navigating complex issues, addressing systemic barriers, and fostering environments where everyone can thrive.
3) Dr. Domenique Gadsden is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at BU. Her research focuses on the experiences of students with learning disabilities (SLD), particularly within higher education contexts. She aims to deepen the understanding of how SLD navigate academic environments and the impact of various elements such as pedagogical practices on their success. A portion of her work also explores intersectional diversity, with a special focus on how these elements influence student outcomes, identity development and meaning-making.
4) Dr. Andrea Antoniuk is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at BU and a registered psychologist. She has vast experience with youth, families, and educators.
