More Than a Name is a performance series created to honour the lives of those killed during the January 8–9, 2026 protests in Iran by forces of the Islamic Republic, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).In the context of what many Iranians have come to call the Lion and Sun Revolution, and particularly in the aftermath of the events of January 8–9, the term Jāveed Nām (جاویدنام) came into wider use to describe those who were killed. Meaning “an enduring name,” it speaks to a person whose memory is carried forward rather than allowed to disappear into a number, a statistic, or a passing headline.
More Than a Name grows from a simple conviction: those who were killed must not be remembered merely as names or statistics, but as people whose lives held dreams, relationships, memories, and unrealized futures. Each performance centres on one person, creating space to encounter the fullness of the life that was lived.
The second performance in the series is dedicated to Salar Mehri known as Salar Japoni(Salar the Japanese), one of the Jāveed Nām whose life and memory the series seeks to honour.
Through live music and personal narrative, the performance reflects on Salar’s life, his family, and the traces of memory that remain after loss. Rather than focusing solely on the circumstances of his death, More Than a Name creates a space in which Salar’s life can be encountered with attention, dignity, and care.
