Suppers at Headlands offer a unique opportunity to experience an evening at Headlands through the lens of Artists. Gather in our historic, artist-renovated Mess Hall and share a seasonal, family-style meal prepared by Headlands’ Kitchen. Your seat at the table helps sustain our mission of supporting artists and creative exchange.
For our October Supper, we are partnering with Black Feast for a special edition of our Monthly Supper Series as part of the Museum of the African Diaspora’s (MoAD) Nexus Black Art Week.
Black Feast is a culinary event celebrating Black queer and trans artists through food. Created in 2017 by chef and interdisciplinary artist and Headlands Alum, Salimatu Amabebe (‘24-’25), with creative support from Annika Hansteen-Izora, Black Feast is led by Black artists who believe in food and art as a site of possibility. Black Feast events are a place where food celebrates Black art, Black stories, Black love, Black movement and Black voices.
Black Feast: Nectar, celebrates the work of Oakland-based artist, Gabriele Christian. Chef Salimatu Amabebe and Gabriele Christian collaborate to bring you a meal and performance centering Christian’s work and research on Black outmigration from San Francisco and bee population decline (both native and "trafficked," or "kept" bees).
Christian’s performance, nectarine, responds to the 1987 archival collaboration The keeping of bees is like the directing of sunshine, created by Christian’s mentor, dance legend and former Headlands resident, Joanna Haigood, and sculptor Mark Thompson.

About MoAD’s Nexus Black Art Week Nexus brings together Bay Area arts institutions, galleries, creative spaces, and artists for a week of exhibitions, programs, and special events that celebrate the richness of the Black artist community in the Bay Area. Organized by the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco, Nexus will enter its third edition in 2026.
Tickets are required for dinner. Maximum of 6 tickets per order. MoAD members are welcome to purchase Member tickets ($75).
