Join NAMI Charlotte for a four-part, in-person education and discussion series focused on menopause, mental health, and connection. This is your time to learn, reflect, and connect with other women navigating similar life stages, whether you come solo or make it part of a “girls’ night out.”
Each session explores a different aspect of menopause, emotional health, hormones and mood, relationships and identity, coping, and resilience through an inclusive, trauma-informed, and stigma-reducing lens. Sessions include brief educational talks, open discussions, and reflection activities.
This series is for:
- Women experiencing perimenopause or menopause
- Caregivers, mental health professionals, and community members
- Anyone seeking a supportive, empowering space to learn and connect

Session Topics:
- April 25: Understanding Menopause & Emotional Health - Dave Mendelsohn -Dave grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Rochester before returning to North Carolina for medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then completed his family medicine residency at Atrium Health here in Charlotte. He spent 17 years practicing at Novant Health Steele Creek Family Medicine, where he built a strong reputation for patient-centered care. In 2022, he joined his wife's Direct Primary Care practice, New South Family Medicine, where he now serves as the Medical Director of their Hormone Program, focusing particularly on perimenopause, menopause and andropause. He has been married for 17 years and is the proud father of two boys, ages 9 and 12. Outside of medicine, he enjoys fishing, skiing, and spending time with his kids—especially building Legos together.
- May 23: Hormones, Mood, Stress & the Brain - is the Founder and Executive Director of The WEBE Institute, a non-profit organization that focuses on improving Black maternal and women’s health in North Carolina. She is also an Assistant Professor at Wake Forest School of Medicine and a Family Medicine Physician. As an educator, public health expert, and advocate, Dr. Brown is passionate about achieving health equity for all and supporting Black women through their health journey.
- June 27: Identity, Relationships & Daily Life - Honor Hawkins, a certified wellness coach who works with women helping them maintain balance and as they move through different life transitions. Honor offers a slightly different perspective - as a wellness coach. Focusing on identity as we get older and finding personal agency, as well as working on relationships with self and others.
- July 25: Coping, Resilience & Accessing Support - Katherine Hyde Hensley- Katherina has focused on material health and loss but recently moved more into the perimenopause and menopause transitions for women.
Each session builds connection, confidence, and care, because menopause is not a failure or an ending, but an important and shared journey.
