We invite you to spend the weekend making Monotypes!
Monotypes are sort of an outlier in the world of print. The “mono” part points to a lack of repeatability, however, it still remains an influential and important member of the print world. We like to think of monotypes as a wonderful entryway into printmaking, as they are not as technical nor physically demanding as other methods. The simplicity of the process lends itself to a shorter time frame from plate to press, and is a good way to work out ideas before committing an image to an etched plate or carved block.
We will cover the foundations of our tools and materials.
We will discuss the different inks, papers, and printing methods and then experiment.
Students will receive hands-on practice with an etching press, and will teach you the skills needed to continue your practice at home.
Participants will explore:
- Subtractive Monotypes (including trace methods)
- Additive Monotypes
- Gel Plates
- Mixing the Methods Together
ALL LEVELS: This course is suitable for all levels — You just need a bit of curiosity and an open mind to learn something new. While some experience with art can be helpful, this series, ultimately, is about exploring the world of printmaking.
NO PREREQUISITES
INCLUDES:
-3 days of printmaking, guided by and learning with two instructors.
-Self-guided evening studio time.

The workshop fees or deposits are applied as a pre-payment of tuition. All student cancellations must be made in writing.
