About this Event
Blue Noyes started playing the drum set at 2 and began lessons at 4. In fifth grade she added orchestral percussion, and she's since played in groups from duos to 50-person steel pan ensembles.
She's a jazz studies major at the University of Kansas, working with Brandon Draper, Dan Gailey, and Matt Otto. In 2026 she was awarded the drum chair in the Jazz Education Network's Sisters in Jazz combo, which she says brought her lessons with Ellen Rowe and Terri Lyne Carrington. The combo debuted her piece "Reflections II" at the network's conference in New Orleans. Around Kansas City she's played with Marcus Lewis, Chris Hazelton, and Eddie Moore, and Moore is the pianist on her 2024 album, First Steps, four standards she arranged with trumpeter Nic Weaver.
She leads Union, a quartet that plays her own compositions, and Monday her quartet hosts the jam. She names modern jazz and free improvisation as her specialty, and Startland News reported that she once played a gig of completely free improvisation behind a poet at Post Coffee Company.
The Blue Room, 1600 E 18th St, Kansas City, MO 64108. Monday, October 5, 2026, at 7 pm. $10 general admission; complimentary for AJM members, musicians, and students.
