📖 MONARCH BOOK CLUB | NOVEMBER EDITIONThe Body Keeps the Score — Dr. Bessel van der Kolk
What if the experiences we carry aren't just stored in our memories, but reflected in our bodies, too?
For our second ever Monarch Book Club gathering, we're taking a deeper look into the human body and the fascinating connection between our physical and psychological health.
This month, we're reading The Body Keeps the Score by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, an exploration of how trauma can affect the brain, nervous system, and physical body.
Through scientific research, clinical experiences, and real-life accounts, we'll explore how our bodies respond to trauma and prolonged stress, the connection between mental and physical health, and the different approaches to healing and recovery.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Monarch Book Club is a relaxed, welcoming space for meaningful conversations about wellness, personal growth, and understanding ourselves and others.
Our discussions are designed to encourage curiosity, introduce new perspectives, and create opportunities to connect with our community.
You do NOT have to finish the book to attend! In fact, you don't have to read it at all. Whether you've read every page or are simply curious about the topic, you're welcome to join the conversation.
We believe meaningful conversations happen when everyone feels comfortable participating in their own way.
While personal reflections and experiences are always welcome, no one is ever obligated to share anything that makes them uncomfortable.
Whether you choose to contribute to the discussion or simply listen and learn, your presence is valued.
⚠️ A THOUGHTFUL CONTENT NOTE
The Body Keeps the Score discusses sensitive subjects, including abuse, violence, PTSD, and other traumatic experiences. Some chapters contain detailed accounts that readers may find distressing.
We encourage everyone to approach the material at their own comfort level, skip sections when needed, and prioritize their well-being.
Our gathering is intended for education, reflection, and community connection rather than group therapy or trauma counseling.
