About this Event
As we begin to prepare for the holidays, we’re gathering Cat Fitzpatrick, Jamilah Lemieux, and Joseph Osmundson for a conversation about the many ways we build families, find belonging, and care for one another. From friends who become family to queer kinship and Black single motherhood, we’ll celebrate the relationships that sustain us while asking what it really takes to build a loving home in a world that doesn’t always make it easy.
In The Dinner Party, Cat Fitzpatrick explores the intimacies, tensions, and pleasures of queer community, capturing the messy, complicated relationships through which we find connection and make a life together.
In Black. Single. Mother.: Real Life Tales of Longing and Belonging, Jamilah Lemieux challenges stereotypes about Black single motherhood, offering an intimate, incisive look at the joys, struggles, and realities of raising children while navigating a society that too often overlooks or undervalues these families.
In Spawning Season: An Experiment in Queer Parenthood, Joseph Osmundson reflects on the uncertainties and possibilities of queer family-making, exploring the desires, decisions, and unexpected turns that shape the journey toward parenthood.
Moderated by Adriana Ladouceur (@bringme_books), this conversation will examine the emotional, social, and economic realities of creating and sustaining a family, from the cost of care to the challenge of finding connection in an increasingly isolated world. Together, we’ll consider who gets supported, whose families are recognized, and how we build the networks of love and care we all need.
Consider this our Thanksgiving Special. Let's make room for every kind of family, and everyone who makes one possible.
