Strau$$ – Dancing between two stools
The fact that the waltz-drunk ‘Duidu, Duidu’ and its relaxed counterpart “Dudidubidu” are actually only a stone's throw apart, not much more than ‘a warm embracing dance away’ from each other, has been clear to the masters of Mnozil Brass for ages. For more than thirty years, the seven capricious musicians have been swerving back and forth between Johann Strauss and Frank Sinatra, between Shostakovich and Prince, or even passionately from Schubert to their kindred spirits in Queen, with the greatest of ease and their sparkling wind instruments. They care as little about the solemn grandeur of one side as they do about the supposed banality of the other. But Strauss – who was ardently admired by Brahms, Wagner and Verdi, as well as by craftsmen and girls from the suburbs (and even Gershwin) – was the forefather of nonchalant flirting between two stools. Strauss was the first to produce hits by the yard, he hired an arranger so he could work faster, and he realised that he could reproduce his sound worldwide with his brothers. He was the first to undermine E and U and become a mass phenomenon as the Waltz King – the cash registers never rang sweeter. In Strau$$, Mnozil Brass now reveal everything about Strau$$. Even the very last thing.
In the end, nothing remains but the naked truth.
