Len Pierro is a versatile jazz saxophonist celebrated for his mastery of multiple woodwinds, including soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, as well as flute, clarinet, and bass clarinet. Born and trained in Philadelphia, Pierro earned his Bachelor of Music from the Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts in 1983 and further honed his skills through intensive study with renowned teachers such as Harold Karabell and Adeline Tomasone.
Pierro’s career spans a wide spectrum of jazz performance, from small combos to large big bands. He has toured extensively and contributed to numerous recording sessions, pit orchestras, and society events, bringing his versatile artistry to a variety of musical settings.
In recent years, Pierro has notably led The Len Pierro Jazz Orchestra, a Philadelphia-based big band. He has released two major albums with the orchestra: The Third Quarter in 2020 and As I Was Saying in 2025. Both albums feature his original compositions and arrangements, blending straight-ahead jazz with a classic big band sound reminiscent of jazz legends like Duke Ellington and Count Basie.
