Join us for Lauren Gunderson's adaptation of Little Women that brings Louisa May Alcott's beloved story of the March sisters to the stage, exploring the joys and struggles of growing up, the power of family, and the tension between personal ambition and societal expectations. The play follows four sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March—as they navigate life in a modest household while their father is away serving as a chaplain during the Civil War. Guided by their loving mother, Marmee, the sisters learn to face hardship with courage, compassion, and humor.
Each sister has a distinct personality and dreams for her future. Meg longs for love and a stable family life, Jo is fiercely independent and determined to become a writer, Beth is gentle and devoted to helping others, and Amy is artistic, ambitious, and eager to experience a wider world.
At the heart of the story is Jo, whose passion for writing challenges the expectations placed on women in the nineteenth century. As she struggles to balance her creative ambitions with her devotion to her family, she must confront questions about independence, love, sacrifice, and what it means to live a fulfilling life.
The sisters' relationships are tested by illness, financial difficulties, romantic disappointments, and the inevitable changes that come with adulthood. Their neighbor Laurie becomes a close friend, particularly to Jo, and his feelings for her introduce a conflict between romantic expectations and Jo's desire to chart her own path.
As the sisters grow older, they discover that love does not always take the form they imagined and that growing up often means accepting loss as well as embracing new beginnings. Through their individual journeys, they learn that the bonds of sisterhood remain a source of strength, even as their lives take different directions.
