About this Event
Mission Possible was the largest singular animal rescue event in history: in February 2022, 285 dogs and cats were evacuated out of Kabul to safety in Vancouver. Now it's time to help the people who helped the animals in Afghanistan - Mission Possible 2.0!
The heroes left behind are the former shelter staff of Kabul Small Animal Rescue and their families. In total, there are 169 women, children, and men we are trying to help. Approximately half are still in Afghanistan, with the other half in temporary housing in a neighbouring country, waiting for refugee visa processing by the Canadian and US governments.
When Afghanistan fell to the Taliban in August 2021, life changed nearly overnight for millions of people. This group of refugees has been living in a particular sort of a hellscape, specifically persecuted for a variety of reasons: their ethnicity (many are Haraza), sex (many of the former shelter workers are women), and past work/projects (including collaboration with US organizations). They cannot work, and until their visas come through, there are tens of thousands dollars in housings costs to pay. Those that have made it to the safehouse in a neighbouring country risk being returned to Afghanistan if the rent cannot be paid.
Join us on Oct. 14 to raise money for these amazing people! Your ticket cost includes entry to the event, one drink, light appetizers, access to an awesome silent auction, and a $30 donation to the cause.
