About this Event
Join us at the Subterranean Cinema Club & The Alice Austen House on Friday, October 30, for an outdoor screening of HÄXAN (1922), accompanied by a live score from Sludgemisers.
Blending documentary and horror, this groundbreaking silent film explores the history of witchcraft, superstition, and the persecution of women. Remarkably feminist for its time, HÄXAN examines how fear and social power have shaped the treatment of women throughout history.
The screening will feature a live, semi-improvised noise score by Sludgemisers, the experimental collaboration of percussionist Nick Gutilla and multi-instrumentalist Jenno Snyder. Combining electronic textures, acoustic rhythms, and immersive soundscapes, their performance brings a powerful new dimension to this century-old film.
There will also be Aura Photography available for $20, so come by in your costumes and enjoy a spooky night out!
