MINALS Incense Fair with Guqin Appreciation
An Ancient Chinese Ritual of Incense, Music & Inner Cultivation
Saturday, 31 October 2026 | 14:30–17:00 | Berlin
Step into the world of ancient Chinese incense traditions, where fragrance, tea, and the meditative sounds of the Guqin come together. Join Incense Master Sān Jiǔ, the 27th-generation successor of MINALS, and Guqin musician Linchi Yang for an intimate cultural gathering at Sieben Schwestern, Berlin.
MINALS & the Incense Fair — Over 870 Years of Chinese Incense Heritage
MINALS is a Chinese incense lineage originating in the Southern Song Dynasty, with over 870 years of heritage. Founded by Chan Buddhist monks, the lineage established a unique and sophisticated system of Harmonized Incense blending, later passed down through a family of Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners and preserved across 27 generations.
The MINALS Incense Fair carries forward ancient ceremonial incense traditions rooted in the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE) and Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE).
Through traditional censer rituals and carefully blended aromatics, incense appreciation became an art of sensory awareness, contemplation, and inner cultivation.
This gathering brings that inherited tradition into the present, inviting guests to explore the subtle relationship between fragrance, emotions, and inner balance.
Meet Incense Master Sān Jiǔ (叁玖)
Joining us from Shanghai, Sān Jiǔ is the current head and 27th-generation successor of MINALS.
An incense and olfactory artist, and a master of Chinese incense arts, he explores the relationship between fragrance, human perception, and Eastern psychology.
He will personally guide guests through the traditional incense practices preserved within the MINALS lineage.
Guqin Appreciation with Linchi
For centuries, appreciating incense, listening to the Guqin, and enjoying tea have been cherished pursuits of Chinese scholars, poets, and artists.
Known as Yǎ Shì (雅事), the elegant arts of Chinese literati, these traditions unite sensory refinement, artistic expression, and inner cultivation.
Linchi will accompany the incense ceremony with a live performance on the Guqin, China's ancient seven-string zither with over 3,000 years of history.
Its delicate, meditative sounds will intertwine with the unfolding aromas, evoking the atmosphere of a traditional Chinese literati gathering.
Tea Welcome by Sieben Schwestern
In Praise of Shadows
Sieben Schwestern is an experimental garment label and a space for tea culture, established in Berlin-Mitte in 2012.
Exploring the beauty of change, decay, and impermanence, its creations express a nomadic aesthetic that is both raw and fragile.
Beyond fashion, the studio is a place for experimentation, inspiration, and gathering, offering a selection of fine teas and traditional Asian tea utensils.
The MINALS Incense Fair will begin with a tea welcome by Sieben Schwestern, inviting guests to settle into an atmosphere of quiet appreciation before Sān Jiǔ’s incense ceremony and Linchi’s live Guqin performance.
Together, tea, fragrance, and music create an intimate sensory journey connecting ancient Chinese traditions with contemporary life.
