Are you a servicemember, first responder, teacher, or someone who serves our community? Service was a core value of General Douglas MacArthur - whether to the nation or to the community - and he recognized that families serve together. In that spirit, the MacArthur Memorial will host a FREE Military and Community Helper Family Appreciation Day on October 17, 2026.
Families are invited to enjoy special screenings of The Wizard of Oz (1939), along with complimentary snacks, candy bags, crafts, and other fun activities. Children are encouraged to come in costume and take part in audience‑favorite costume contests for a chance to win prizes.
The film begins at 10:30 a.m. and shows again at 2:30 p.m. Costume contests will take place after each showing and winners will be decided by audience applause! Crafts will be available throughout the day while supplies last.
About the MacArthur Memorial: The MacArthur Memorial was founded in 1964 as a museum and library dedicated to the life and times of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur. Today the MacArthur Memorial is an internationally recognized center for the study of military history, leadership, and diplomacy. The City of Norfolk operates the Memorial in close partnership with the nonprofit General Douglas MacArthur Foundation. The museum serves 140,000+ people annually and is open free of charge.
