Midweek Mingle: Everything you need to know about Adelaide’s regular weekly mixed dance style event.
When: Every Wednesday night from 8:30 pm-10 pm in the main ballroom at QuickSteps. 255 Goger St.
Who’s there? The bar is staffed, and there are 4-5 QuickSteps Teachers there to sweep you and your friends off your feet. This event is open to members and non-members alike, so if you love ballroom, Latin, and swing dance (with a sprinkling of Line Dance), then come along and join in.
Facilities: HUGE dance floor, clean and fancy bathrooms, large front bar space for drinks and hangouts between dances.
Cost: Absolutely free! You’re so welcome.
Dance Styles: Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep, Rumba, Rock’ n Roll, Cha Cha, Samba, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Bolero, Hustle, Line Dance.
What’s the vibe? We started this event in April 2025 after we realised that Salsa and Bachata were now so well served in Adelaide that there was space for us to shake up our program and add something new! So after 4 successful years of Bachata Practica, we bumped it off the program and introduced the Mingle. (But don’t worry, you can still dance Bachata every Wednesday at Blue Ivy on Hindley St!) There was no event in Adelaide where the ballroom and Latin dance community could go, for free, and enjoy a relaxed mingle, casual drink, a chat, and dance, so we created one.
How is the music selected?
Well, it’s a bit of a collaboration between the QuickSteps Team and the dance community. Each week, there is a list on the front desk that members add song requests to.
We start by creating a base list of songs for the event. Then we build on that list until it adds up to about 1.5 hours of music. The goal is to have a balanced mix of styles that keeps the energy flowing. We usually include 2–3 of the most popular dance styles. Along with that, we add 1 or 2 lesser-known styles to keep things interesting. These may include dances like Bolero, Hustle, or Merengue.
