THE BLANC launches Midtown Live — Jazz, Electronics & Multimedia, curated by Neil Leonard. The inaugural concert brings together three visionary artists reimagining sound, performance, and collective listening.Michael J. Schumacher opens with new work for his Portable Multi-channel Sound System, an 8- to 12-channel setup (built to fit in a suitcase) that diffuses sound throughout the room, placing the audience inside the music itself. Then bassist/composer James Ilgenfritz and sound/media artist AC Diamond take the stage for an improvised electronic dialogue of responsive listening and spontaneous exchange.
Midtown Live draws on the neighborhood's own sonic history — from Fox Film's 1927 Movietone studios to NBC's 1933 radio studio to Charlie Parker recording "Ko-Ko" at WOR Studios in 1945 — bringing that legacy into dialogue with the present.
