No dance experience? No problem. Our dance community is friendly, inclusive, and beginner-ready. A complimentary beginner swing dance lesson will be offered at 8:00 PM before the band begins. Whether you come to dance or simply to enjoy the music, ambiance, and good company, you will feel right at home.

A bit of history:

Paris has a rich history of American Jazz and swing dancing!

American Jazz, Lindy Hop, and Jitterbug were first introduced in Paris as a result of European tours in the mid 1930's. Dance troupes including Whitey's Lindy Hoppers performed their amazing dance routines to the happily astonished Parisians.

Interestingly enough, the influence was not just one way. French guitar legend Django Reinhart pioneered Jazz manouche (Gypsy Jazz) during this time. Modern Balboa dancers are moved by these fast, driving tempos that were first heard in Paris, France.

During the occupation of France during World War II, many Parisians would defy wartime restrictions by dancing Jitterbug at Underground Jazz events. After the war, the liberation of Paris brought American soldiers and jazz acts back to Paris, securing Swing music, Lindy Hop, and Jitterbug in the Paris nightlife.

Today Paris has an active Lindy Hop and swing dance scene featuring outdoor dancing, weekly socials, and recurring classes. They also have their annual swing dance and Lindy Hop event, Lindylicious/CosyLicious Festival.
