MICTLÁN: A DÍA DE MUERTOS CONCERTStep into Mictlán, where dance, tradition, and storytelling come together to explore the journey between life, death, and eternal peace.
Inspired by the ancient Aztec legend of Mictlán, the underworld where souls face a series of trials before reaching their final rest, Quetzalén’s original production follows Xail, a woman called by Mictlantecuhtli, the god of death, to revisit the most meaningful moments of her life as a dancer. Guided by a Xoloitzcuintli, she journeys through Mictlán in search of peace.
Through traditional Mexican folklórico, theatrical storytelling, and stylized interpretations, Mictlán celebrates both the Pre-Hispanic and Catholic traditions that shape Día de Muertos.
Featuring more than 50 young dancers in grades K–12 from Quetzalén’s after-school programs across Sonoma and Napa counties.
Sponsored by AMPLIFI Napa Valley and featuring special guest artist Andrea Barrera.
After two sold-out performances in Sonoma, Mictlán comes to Napa for one final performance before returning in 2029.
