HICKORY, N.C. - The Historical Association of Catawba County will welcome acclaimed storyteller, songwriter and visual artist Michael Reno Harrell to Harper House on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. Harrell will present "Blue Ridge Tales & Tunes - Homespun Humor & Heart," an evening of original stories and songs filled with laughter, warmth and nostalgia.Harrell's natural gift for storytelling comes directly from his Southern Appalachian roots, where stories are as deeply woven into the culture as music. His songs and stories flow together in narratives that reveal the emotions and experiences people share - and the way a good laugh or a touch of nostalgia can bring an audience together.
His creative work reflects both the Southern experience and America's larger story. Whether expressed through a song, a tale or a work of art, it all comes down to one thing: story.
The program is part of HACC's membership event series and offers guests a special opportunity to experience live Appalachian storytelling in the historic setting of Harper House. Admission is free for HACC members and $10 for non-members.
Seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve a place, call HACC at 828-465-0383. Harper House is located at 310 North Center Street in Hickory.
The Historical Association of Catawba County preserves and shares the county's history through the Museum of History in Newton, Harper House and Hickory History Center, Murray's Mill and Bunker Hill Covered Bridge.
