The Mansfield Forward BID Skills Academy is running a one-day, workshop-style Mental Wellbeing First Aid Supporter course from SkillBase First Aid. It gives you an insightful understanding of mental health and wellbeing, packed with practical advice. You'll learn how to spot signs of declining mental health and, using SkillBase's practical action plan A.C.T.©, how to offer someone help, both in an emergency and as a longer-term solution.
What the course covers
Common mental health illnesses such as depression and anxiety, challenging stigma, stress, alarm bells, coping methods, recovery and self-care. Topics include:
- What is mental health?
- Stigma and discrimination
- The mental health spectrum
- Recovery and wellness
- Stress and pressure
- Stress self-care
- Anxiety
- Getting help and support
- Your role as a Mental Wellbeing Supporter
- How to use your A.C.T.© plan
The course is in line with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance "Mental Health Conditions, Work and the Workplace". It's fun and interactive, with plenty of time for practice and questions. There are no formal tests: you're assessed in a relaxed, non-threatening way.
Who it's for
Anyone aged 16 and over who wants to support the people they work with. No experience needed.
What you get
- You qualify as a "Mental Wellbeing Supporter" in the workplace
- A SkillBase First Aid certificate, valid for three years
- The manual and workbook "The Good Mental Health Guide", plus an A.C.T.© card, yours to keep
