Mental Health First Aid for KAFB Adults Assisting Youth - Oct 2026

This Mental Health First Aid training has been scheduled for military personnel, veterans, family members, and civilians that work on Kirtland Air Force Base.

The 8 hour training will offer participants the opportunity to learn how to identify, understand, and respond to youth who may be developing and/or experiencing a mental health, behavioral health, and/or substance use concerns among adolescents ages 12-18.

Mental Health First Aid training is designed to help you build skills and confidence to reach out and provide initial support to young people who are struggling, and learn how to help connect them to appropriate support.

This course is designed for people who want to be introduced to the common mental health challenges youth experience and learn a 5-step action plan for how to help a youth in both crisis and non-crisis situations by:

• Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).

• Recognize common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.

• Understand how to interact with a young person in crisis.

• Know how to connect a young person with help.

• Better understand trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying.
