ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM
We live in a time of unprecedented growth (technological, economic, and institutional), yet many people feel disoriented and disconnected. Modern societies are highly productive, but most people find themselves unsure what all this productivity is for. Language of mental health and well-being seems to be everywhere, and everyone is told to cope, optimize, regulate, and self-manage. Beneath the language of mental health as a mainstream phenomenon sits deeper questions few spaces are willing to ask.
What does it actually mean to live and be well?
The IMAR 2026 Symposium is a one-day public conference for people across faiths, traditions, and communities in Northern California who sense that modern approaches to healing are incomplete and to explore wellbeing as a human question, not just a clinical one.
