A half day awareness training on supporting our young people with their mental health, dealing with distress and in times of crisisAbout this Event

This session is open to anyone who has a role supporting young people - in a club setting or in another capacity
Nowadays, we are aware more than ever that our young people’s mental health is crucially important. This half day session provides an insight into Mental Health, Self Harm and Suicide and it is designed as an introduction for parents and carers or anyone who works with young people.
At the end of the session a participant will have:
- An understanding of what mental health is
- An awareness of some of the myths surrounding mental health, self-harm and suicide
- Practical skills to pick up on signs and having the conversations that matter
- A level of confidence in supporting a young person who has mental health issues or is in distress or
- Awareness of what resources and other support are available
- An awareness and appreciation of the role we can play
- An appreciation of what we can do to look after our wellbeing: the importance of self care
As a local charity we know the importance of local knowledge – so we always aim to tailor sessions and focus on local issues, resources etc.
And also as a suicide prevention charity we also know the importance of ensuring people feel as comfortable and as confident as possible in talking about suicide and dealing with other distress.
Learning is through a mixture of presentation, discussion and small group work. Participants will receive further support resources and a certificate of completion.
