Men Of Iron: A Horus Heresy Charity Event

Dive head first in to this (frankly ridiculous) Horus Heresy charity event. Five games. One day. Test your metal, and become a Man of Iron!
About this Event

What Is Men of Iron?

Five games in one day. Sounds ridiculous, right? Well that's because it is.

Leodis Games has a history of running charity "Iron Man" 40k and AoS events, in which players compete in a 5 round tournament in a single day. This was both a test of gaming skill and endurance

This is a CHARITY event, and the primary goal here is to raise money for Lymphoma Action, a charity very close to one of our team members. So if you are expecting a well balanced and competitive event, you may well be out of luck. This is going to be a bit silly, and that's just the nature of it.

Summary
  • 5 games in one day
  • Horus Heresy 3rd Edition
  • 3500pts
  • Raffle for prizes
  • Per-player donation to charity

Expectations

While we would love for you all to stay and endure the full event in all of its majesty, we accept that silly amounts of gaming and late nights are not for everyone.

As such, after Round 3, any player who want to drop are allowed to do so. Anyone who stays on after that is expected to play the rest of the night. Anyone who makes it all the way to the end gets an extra special something to take home with them as well.

How We're Funding It

In the interests of transparency, as this is a not-for-profit event, here is a breakdown of exactly what your £54.88 ticket gets you:

> £4.88 goes to Eventbrite as platform fees

> £20 of the ticket cost will go to Lymphoma Action as a cash donation

> £1 of your ticket gets you a Lymphoma Action pin badge

> £1 of your ticket cost gets you a custom event dice (more can be purchased in advance)

> £13 of your ticket cost goes towards the cost of dinner (more below)

> Any remaining value of your ticket cost (approx £15/person) goes towards the prize pool (also more below)

Leodis has kindly given us free hire of the venue as it is a charity event, so be sure to say thank you!

Refunds

Contrary to our usual policy of 1 week, as this event requires a greater logistical effort on our part and due to the lead time on food, we will not be able to offer refunds after the 13th of January.

Food

Lunch is not provided for th

is event, though there are local options and you're allowed to order food to the store, so long as you don't make a mess.

For dinner, there will be a large pizza order placed in advance of the event. We will communicate via email to take note of any dietary requirements, and will offer what selections we can.

Snacks and drinks are available throughout the event on-site.

Prizes

What would a Warhammer event be without prizes?

Gift of Iron

Any player who makes it all the way to the end of the night (close of R5) will recieve a commemorative prize, displaying once and for all that they are truly hard as iron.

Event Dice

Not so much a prize, but anyone wishing to purchase additional event dice will be able to do so in advance of the event. There will be communications going out closer to the time.

The Prize Raffle

In true charity spirit, the majority of prizes for this event will be distributed via the ancient British tradition of a raffle. Every event ticket gets 3 raffle entries, with more able to be purchased on the day for £2 each should you wish. Any additional raffle tickets sold will contribute directly to the charity donation fund. The raffle will be drawn in the dinner break after Round 3.

Event Structure

Rules? In my event?

Allegiance

As this is a charity event, we are simply going to throw you all into the meatgrinder, just like the Emperor (beloved by all) intended. You may match up against players of the same faction, allegiance, or even players using the same named characters as you!

If you run into serious issues with special rules or army composition because of this, feel free to flag down a team member at the time and they'll help sort it out.

Timings

The following timings are going to have to be as concrete as we can to stay on track, so that means the end of each round is a hard dice down.

9-9.15 Registration

9.15-12 Round 1

12-12.30 lunch

12.30- 3.15 Round 2

3.30-6.15 Round 3

6.15-6.45 Tea

6.45-9.30 Round 4

9.45-12.30 Round 5

12.30-1 Thank yous & goodbyes

Army Building Restrictions

None! You heard me, none!

There will be no list building restrictions (save for the fact that your list musy be legal) for any of the rounds at this event. You can bring Primarchs, named Characters, Unique units, Fortifications, Allies, the lot. Go nuts.

For rounds 1-3, simply bring a legal 3500pt list, using the standard army construction for HH 3.0 missions.

For rounds 4 and 5, you may bring a second list and you may choose to make use of the Leviathan Armoured Fist apex detachment from the Journal Tactica: Mailed Fist. This means you can bring up to three Lords of War which do not count towards the usual 25% restriction. Note though that they do have to be the same faction as your Primary detachment. Please discuss with your opponent before the round starts to make sure they're ok with you wheeling out the big guns, as they may not have as many toys themselves!

Missions

For rounds 1 to 3 of this event, we will be drawing on missions from across the length and breadth of the Horus Heresy's long and storied publication history. These will all be provided on the day, so do not worry.

For rounds 4 and 5, there will be the opportunity for indulging in a spot of late night nonsense should you and your opponent wish, as we will be running some super-heavy themed K*ll points based missions. These will also be provided on the day.
