About this Event
The year was 1966, and teenager Tony Trischka came to Greenwich Village to see the Father of Bluegrass, Bill Monroe, along with his Bluegrass Boys, at famed basement coffee house, the Gaslight Cafe.
Tony was there for two of the three nights they played, and, in his opinion, it is Monroe's last great band: Lamar Grier on banjo, Richard Greene on fiddle, James Monroe on bass, and Peter Rowan on guitar. They each had enough high lonesome energy to match Monroe's fierce playing and sublime tenor singing, and it was magical.
Working off the original Monroe set-lists of the Gaslight (now closed), the Father of Modern Bluegrass, Tony Trischka, invites you to journey back in time, as he, Alex Hargreaves, Michael Daves, Jacob Jolliff, and Jared Engel recreate some of that energy.
We're thrilled that Tony thought of this legendary subterranean listening room for this 60th anniversary of Bill Monroe in the village, a one-night-only event, so tickets will go fast.
Please note: there is a two item minimum per attendee. All sales final.
