Membership Examination Preparation Course 2026

Prepare for the IStructE Examinations with Expert-Led Workshops!

Starting Wednesday, 13th May, join our weekly sessions designed to sharpen your skills for the IStructE exams. These sessions will cover essential exam techniques and provide hands-on workshops tackling past paper questions on building structures and bridges.

This series of evening classes at the University of Surrey is for candidates sitting the Chartered and Incorporated Membership exams and the Chartered Membership Supplementary exam.

The course will be of benefit to those sitting the examinations in the summer of 2026 and to those intending to take the examinations in future years.

The course will be run on five successive Wednesday evenings from 13th May to 10th June between 18.30 and 21.00.

On some evenings there will be separate sessions for Building Structures and Bridge candidates.

Evening 1:

Introduction to the CM, IM and CS examinations. Examiners will talk about the marking procedure, general tips and time management. Joint Bridge and Buildings session

All course leaders and helpers are experienced practising Structural Engineers drawn from the Surrey Hub membership.

You will not need any special equipment but please bring pens, notepaper and a calculator.

It will be useful to have your reference files filled in with extracts of any specific design guides, codes, load-span tables, material properties, etc.

A pad of graph paper will be useful for sketching.

The course fee of £195 will be a donation to the IStructE Benevolent Fund, after deduction of Eventbrite's fees. The presenters are giving their time freely for the benefit of the candidates and the Benevolent Fund.

Parking

There is now a charge for parking in the visitors' car park which can be paid using the Ringo app. Please ensure that you read the signs and park in the correct area for visitors otherwise you may receive a penalty notice. From the car park allow for a 10 minute walk to the seminar rooms.
