The biggest Lion & Dragon Dance Moon Festival returns to the heart of Melbourne's Chinatown on September 26th, 2026!This year sees an expanded program featuring a Lion & Dragon Dance parade, Lion & Dragon Dance performances, a special Guzheng performance by Qiqi, Martial Arts & Kung Fu, and the family-friendly lantern parade down Chinatown!
Organised by the Chinese Masonic Society (CMS) in conjunction with the Melbourne Chinatown Business Association (MCBA), this free family event showcases the best of Chinese and Asian culture in the heart of the city!
Completely free and family-friendly. Bring your kids and their lanterns, and join in the festivities and the fun parade with the lions!
Festival Events:
5:30pm - Special parade up Lt Bourke St, Chinatown. Starting from the Swanston St Chinatown archways, and heading up to the Chinatown Plaza at Cohen Place.
6:00pm - Official Event starts at Chinatown Plaza (Cohen Place) with the first of many traditional Chinese Lion Dance performances
Performances include multiple Chinese Lion Dance performances, a Dragon Dance performance, Kung Fu performances, a Guzhen Performance by QiQi, a Photo opportunity with kids in lion costumes during breaks, and many more fun activities!
7:30pm - Lantern Parade with the Chinese Lion Dancers and drums, down Lt Bourke St to Waratah Place, Melbourne. Finishing at the historical Chinese Masonic Society building at 7-9 Waratah Place.
