In a rapidly changing world impacted by the COVID pandemic, generational shifts, and political divisions, people of all ages need community now more than ever. But it's so easy for us church folks to get caught wondering why they aren't coming to us. How might we shift our understanding of intergenerational ministry so it might include building community and partnerships with unexpected people and in unexpected places? What skills and superpowers do we already possess for this work, and where do we need to grow and stretch?
Join us for Meet Them Where They Are: Intergenerational Ministry Beyond Sunday, a workshop with Rev. Tara Humphries on Saturday, November 7 from 10am-12pm at First Lutheran Church Portland to explore all of these questions and more. A light breakfast with coffee and tea will be provided. We would love to see you there!
Rev. Tara Humphries (they/them) is in their fifth year serving as lead pastor of Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church in Portland, an endlessly fascinating, challenging, and joy-filled call. They also work very part time as a Reflective Pastoral Supervisor with the Centre for Creative Supervision at LeaderWise, and are active in faith-based community organizing for queer and trans justice.
Rev. Tara is a graduate of Bates College (BA), Yale Divinity School (MDiv), and holds Certificates in Congregational Leadership from Andover Newton Seminary, Transitional Ministry from the Interim Ministry Network, and Reflective Pastoral Supervision from the Centre for Creative Supervision and Wesley House. They are a lifelong Mainer living in South Portland with their partner, dog, and two cats. Outside of ministry you can find them running, kayaking the Scarborough marshes, and working with horses and kids at Riding to the Top.
