About this Event
Medieval manuscripts are full of strange little guys: armored snails, sword-wielding rabbits, questionable dragons, and creatures with absolutely inexplicable intentions.
Let's make some of our own. ⚔️🐌
Join Creative Curiosity at Merfolk's Specialty Coffee for an afternoon exploring the wonderfully peculiar world of medieval marginalia.
We'll look at historical illustrations for inspiration, experiment with watercolor, gouache, ink, and decorative details, then invent our own miniature medieval menaces.
Give your creature a name, an elaborate backstory, or a completely unnecessary weapon. Transform an existing historical creature or dream up something entirely new.
We'll explore simple painting techniques, illustration, and decorative elements while making room for plenty of experimentation.
All art materials are provided. You'll leave with your own collection of peculiar little medieval creatures and perhaps a newfound appreciation for the questionable decisions of medieval illustrators.
