Blackpool Tower to Lytham Hall Promenade Walk
About this Event

Medaille Trust is hosting a national fundraising walk on Sunday 18th October, during Anti-Slavery Week and we’d love you to join us! All proceeds will go towards supporting people affected by trafficking and modern-day slavery. The walk is open to everyone, so please encourage your friends, family and colleagues to come along too.

We'll be lucky enough to have the Modern Slavery Bus as travel for the day and this can be used along the route and the return journey to Blackpool Tower.

The starting point will be at The Comedy Carpet on the Promenade outside Blackpool Tower and the walk will finish with lunch in Lytham Hall gardens.

For those travelling by train, you will need to head to Blackpool North train station.

For those travelling by car, there is plenty of parking nearby and below is a list of Car Park Options with the walking distance to the meeting point:

  • West Street Multi-Storey Car Park (4 minute walk)
  • Houndshill Car Park (5 minute walk)
  • Central Surface Car Park (7 minute walk)
  • Queen Street Car Park (9 minute walk)
  • Premier Parking (9 minute walk)
  • Filey Place Car Park (9 minute walk)
  • Dickson Road Pay & Display Car Park (10 minute walk)
  • Talbot Road Multi-storey Car Park (11 minute walk)
  • Blackpool North Train Station Car Park (13 minute walk)

The Modern Slavery Bus will not be available to take you to Blackpool, you will need to make your own travel arrangements to and from the Fundraising Walk.

We also have T-shirts for participants and if you can let us know what size you would like in the booking form that would be really appreciated!

Details of the route are below:

Route

The starting point will be at The Comedy Carpet outside of Blackpool Tower on the Promenade walk, then facing the Tower walk to your right and follow the promenade.

After passing the Central Pier, the path splits and you will need to keep to the right-hand side to continue along the promenade.

A short walk along the path splits again and you will need to keep to the right. There should be some tall metal tubes on your left.

Keep following the promenade path sticking to your right.

You should then come to the South Pier, this would be a good place to stop for the toilet, refreshments or a quick rest.

To rejoin the promenade you will need to walk past the entrance to the South Pier then turn immediately right before the water park and you should join a path that walks behind the water park back onto the promenade.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach will be on your right with views of rollercoasters and rides.

Continuing along the promenade you should walk past the Whale Tail sculpture, more sculptures, a giant mirror ball, glam rocks and waterwings.

Once you’ve passed all the sculptures you will need to keep to the right and the promenade path will come to an end. You will need to follow the path round to your left and join the beach path opposite, following the path along the South Beach.

For anyone who didn’t want to walk along the beach they could hop onto the Modern Slavery Bus and the promenade path returns after St Anne’s Pier (2.2 miles/45 minutes).

As you walk along you will come to Beachcomber Café on your left, if you keep walking along in approx. 5 minutes there are public toilets on a path up to the left next to a car park, just before St Anne’s Pier.

You will then reach the end of the beach path and you will need to follow it round to your left and up to the front of St Anne’s Pier, walking through the small Peace and Happiness Garden.

Once you’ve walked past the Pier entrance the promenade path continues on your right just after the car park.

Along the route, on your left there will be a paddling pool, public toilets, St Anne’s Memorial and on your right an ice cream kiosk.

You will then come to a split path and you will want to continue straight where you will then cross the road at a zebra crossing.

After crossing the road you should pass a café on your right, a splash park with public toilets and a putting green on your left; then on your right St Anne’s Miniature Railway, a children’s play park and finally, the Ornamental Lake Garden on your left.

At the end of the path you will reach a café with public toilets opposite.

To continue on the path, you will need to walk through the car park to the beach, where you will walk along there for a few metres before joining the path. It does start off sandy but then goes back into paving.

Again, if there is anyone who wanted to avoid this they could get onto the bus and rejoin the walk at the Jubilee Beacon. The Bus would need to take a right into St Paul’s Avenue car park to drop people off.

If you would like to walk through the Japanese Garden and look out at Fairhaven lake, then you would need to head left towards the car park away from the Beacon and take a right.

If you would like to walk along the promenade that looks out at the beach and the sea, you would need to head right away from the car park towards the Beacon to follow the path.

If the group has split, a good meeting point is at the public toilets at the end of the lake path at Stanner’s Bay.

For the next part of the walk I would recommend anyone who has mobility issues to take the Modern Slavery Bus straight to Lytham Hall.

From here you will need to join the path along the road, no longer on the promenade. As you walk along the road will turn to the left and become Ansdell Road South. Continue along this road, crossing over at Clifton Drive. You will then need to cross to your left where there are pedestrian steps opposite and they take you up and over into Ansdell Road North.

Continue down Ansdell Road North until you get to the end and turn right into Blackpool Road, cross over at the zebra crossing, then turn left into Forest Drive.

Continue along forest drive keeping on the left side of the road and you will reach the pedestrian entrance for Lytham Hall. This is labelled on the green gates.

As you enter and walk along the path, you will need to make a right and this will bring you into the gardens in front of Lytham Hall.

The Modern Slavery Bus will need to enter Lytham Hall through the Main Entrance on Ballam Road at FY8 4TS.
