THE PROGRAMME
9:30am - 10:30am: Ka Waiata Tātou
Come together and learn a waiata in an affirmation of our collective strength as Māori arts practitioners. Let us lift our voices as one, so our stories, dreams, aspirations, and assertions are heard and seen.

10:30am - 11am: This is How We View It This is How We Do It
Māori artists are navigators, creating and re-creating pathways in the arts. Our artists nourish their work by drawing from Mātauranga Māori, global connectedness and the wellsprings of their own creativity. Hear from artists on how they see the world, what drives their creative practice, and what is their next big thing.

Panelists include Mīria George (Artist + Co-Director – Tawata and Executive Director – Kia Mau Festival) and Jack Gray (Artistic Director – Atamira Dance Company)

11:15am - 11:45am: Nurturing the Fruit of Ngā Hua Toi
We are the fruits of our ancestors and stand on the shoulders of those who paved the way for Māori contemporary theatre and dance. How can we continue to build strong pathways for practitioners in the variety of roles it takes to create a show? Hear from our speakers about strategies and actions to nurture Māori creatives in the arts.

Panelists include Hone Kouka (Co-Director – Tawata and Artistic Director Kia Mau Festival), Cat Ruka (Executive Director – Basement Theatre), Juanita Hepi (Actor, Educator, Producer) and Jane Hakaraia (Designer – Shed 13 Ltd)
