PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE TRAIL
McAfee Knob is rated as a moderate to difficult hike and is best recommended for people with a good to intermediate fitness level. The trail begins with a steady, gradual climb through a heavily wooded Appalachian forest. Most of the route consists of packed dirt, exposed roots, rocks, and occasional stone steps. Although the hike gains substantial elevation, the climbing is generally spread over several miles rather than being extremely steep. Be ready for a longer mountain hike.

✅ Optional: bug spray, cap/sunglasses, sunscreen
✅ Optional: Hiking poles. (for the descent)
