About this Event
Group movie outing - May the Fourth at the Rio Theatre / optional post-film hangout.
Short summary
Most May the Fourth events are costume contests and trivia nights where everyone already agrees Star Wars is great.
This is not that.
This is the original 1977 film on a big screen — the one that rewired an entire generation's idea of what a movie could feel like — followed by Rogue One, which might be the only Star Wars film since the original trilogy that actually earns its ending.
The Rio is doing a double bill. I want a small group who can watch both and then argue about them after.
A few questions already sitting in my head
"Does A New Hope still work as a film — or does it only work as nostalgia?"
"What did Lucas understand about myth, archetypes, and emotional simplicity that most blockbusters have forgotten?"
"Rogue One ends where A New Hope begins. Does watching them back to back change either film?"
"Is Rogue One the best Star Wars movie since Empire — or does it just feel that way because the bar got so low?"
"What's the difference between a franchise that means something and a franchise that just keeps going?"
How the evening will go
We'll meet at the Rio before doors open, grab seats together, and settle in for both films. Whoever wants can keep the night going nearby after for a drink and the post-screening verdict.
Please buy your own ticket in advance.
