Maurice Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges is a wildly imaginative fantasy opera where a single child’s tantrum sets an entire enchanted world into motion. In a flash of frustration, the ordinary becomes extraordinary—walls start to whisper, teacups burst into song, animals argue back, and the child’s room transforms into a living, breathing world of magic and mischief.
As this fantastical realm awakens, the child is swept into a dazzling swirl of musical surprises and unexpected voices, where every object has something to say and nothing is quite as it seems. With Ravel’s shimmering, kaleidoscopic score at its heart, this enchanting opera is a playful journey through wonder, chaos, and the power of imagination to transform everything it touches.
(Sung in French with English Surtitles~ runtime: approx 1 hour)
