About this Event
machinaloci space is pleased to host this vocal workshop led by Lore Lixenberg, part of a celebration of the work of the artist Maurice Lemaître in Raleigh Chapel and machinaloci space London. Lemaître was part of the Lettrist group that pioneered sound poetry, megapnuems, etc. – a fascinating group of amazing artists including Isou, Debord and Wolman – who argued all the time and were very involved in the May 68 Paris protests.
The weekend-long celebration begins in machinaloci space with a vocal workshop around creating sound poetry. As a group, participants will learn Lemaître’s poem, Roxanne, as a starting point for a collaborative creative process. Participants will then be invited to create their own sound poems as individuals or groups. The workshop will offer an open invitation to create together and/or individually and, for those who want to, to perform what has emerged later in the evening.
An exhibition of Lemaître’s work curated by Frédéric Aquaviva in Raleigh Chapel (upstairs from machinaloci space) will open at 7:00pm and workshop participants will be invited to perform Roxanne with Lore, and maybe some of their own sound poems if they choose, in the exhibition space at 8:00pm.
Exhibition continues in Raleigh Chapel all day Sunday 31 May. Lemaître’s radio work will be played at 6:00pm and films screened at 8:00pm.
