The friends and family of Maureen “Morrie” Ripley are hosting a benefit for Morrie on Saturday, October 24th from 11:00am until 5:00pm at USW Local 1000 located at 100 Civic Center Plaza Corning, NY 14830. Come help support Morrie and her family during her recovery of a severe stroke. Morrie is a 46-year-old wife, mother, sister, friend, and one of the kindest women you would ever meet.On July 23rd, Maureen "Morrie" Ripley, had a stroke from a blood clot on the left side of her brain. This was a complete shock to her family and friends. There were no severe warning signs to indicate or raise concern about any medical complications. She was taken by emergency air transport from Arnot Ogden Hospital to UR Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester and underwent a 2-hour emergency surgery to remove the clot. The clot has caused a severe stroke leaving Morrie with speech difficulty, currently almost no movement of her right side and limbs. After spending two and one half days in the neurology ICU, she has been moved to a neurology residential ICU in UR Strong Memorial Hospital as she’s shown signs of progression. Moving forward, her medical team's goal is to move her into a rehabilitation facility, where she will have occupational, physical, and speech therapy to help her continue her recovery. Her medical team has told the family this will be a long road like a “marathon” for her.
Maureen's family her 15-year-old daughter, husband, and her sisters are trying to support her as much as they can. The benefit will help show support from friends, family, and the community to help build their spirits and alleviate some financial stress.
