When Matt Andersen steps on stage, he brings a lifetime of music to every note he plays. The New Brunswick-born singer-songwriter has spent decades cutting his teeth in dusty clubs, dim-lit bars, and grand theatres all over the world, delivering performances that run the gamut from intimate to wall-shaking.
His latest album, The Hammer & The Rose, trades the hard edges of his heavy blues riffs for delicate, tender arrangements that let his voice take centre stage. Recorded live off-the-floor in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, the record continues a body of work that has amassed over 33 million streams on Spotify and 30 million views on YouTube.
Andersen has shared stages with Marcus King, Beth Hart, Marty Stuart, Greg Allman, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Randy Bachman, Serena Ryder, and Tab Benoit, among others. He’s a two-time European Blues Award winner for Best Solo/Acoustic Act, the first-ever Canadian to take home top honours in the solo category at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, and a multiple Maple Blues Award winner. Matt Andersen & The Big Bottle of Joy was nominated for a Juno Award in 2024.
