Malakai opening for The Valley CatsThe first matinee of Blackbird Productions’ fall/winter season begins with the fresh, soulful sound of Malakai, the young Duncan, BC musician whose songwriting and musicianship belie his years. A singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Malakai brings an intimate and expressive style to the stage, drawing on folk, soul and contemporary influences. His original music, distinctive voice and thoughtful musicianship make him a captivating way to begin an afternoon of live music.
Then, The Valley Cats take the stage. Hailing from the Comox Valley, this talented six-piece brings together jazz, R&B and funk, with plenty of groove, musicality and local character. Expect sophisticated rhythms, soulful sounds and the kind of chemistry that makes live music such a pleasure to experience. It's an afternoon that brings together the emerging voice of a remarkable young musician and the seasoned groove of one of the Valley's favourite ensembles.
