About this Event
Starting an art collection can raise many questions: How do I know what I really like? What is the purpose of my collection? How do I find artists, galleries and other trusted partners? This introductory masterclass offers a clear and practical starting point for people who enjoy art, may have already bought one or two works, or are still deciding whether they want to start collecting.
What we will explore:
- What collecting art can mean
- How to recognise and develop your own taste
- The relationship between personal desire, context and budget
- How to learn more about an artist and assess whether a gallery is reputable
- Questions to ask before buying
- Price, documentation, condition and additional costs
- How to decide whether this is the right moment to start collecting
No previous training in art history or experience in collecting is required. The masterclass does not promote a particular style, artist, or investment strategy.
Wilame Lima Vallantin, a French-Brazilian visual artist, gallerist, curator, and founder of Kolibri, a contemporary art gallery in Lisbon, will lead the session.
